This one day workshop explores the concept of how we, as clinicians/workers, may experience trauma vicariously through our work with clients. Theoretical ideas are conceptualised around a case study.
Areas addressed include: Signs and symptoms of Vicarious trauma; Differential diagnosis and differences to secondary traumatisation and burnt out; risk factors to developing vicarious trauma; Defensive manoeuvring such as transference, countertransference and projective identification; The role of mirror neurons; The role of empathy as an aid and disabler; Evaluating and mitigating risk; Primary prevention/self-care; and Strategies to address Vicarious Trauma when it occurs.

All those who work with clients who have experienced trauma.
Lucia Vitali is a registered psychologist and a Certified Clinical Neuropsychotherapy Practitioner. Apart from her clinical and supervisory work, she lectures extensively in the areas of Attachment Theory, Neurobiology of Attachment, Trauma and Brain Development and disruptive outcomes of relational trauma. Lucia has over 20 years experience working with individual’s of all ages, couples and families.
