The Grey Areas Between Disciplining, Neglecting, Harming and Abusing Children

When do smacking, yelling or lack of attention become physical abuse or neglect? This workshop will help you recognise and respond to concerns about safety and well-being with more confidence, and will address strategies for talking to parents about these concerns and assisting them to avoid the progression to significant harm.
The workshop will cover:
- Thresholds for physical abuse and neglect.
- A better understanding of the ‘Grey Areas’.
- Working with parents to promote change and prevent significant harm.
- A better understanding of the impact of Culture on Parenting practices Increased ability and confidence to have difficult conversations with CALD parents about safety and wellbeing of children.

Bronwen Elliott has over 29 years experience working with children and families.
Bronwen is an independent social worker with many years experience in working with children and supporting agencies who provide family work services. Her experience ranges from child protection to playgroup and she continues to visit families in their homes in her role with the Children’s Court Clinic.
Bronwen has worked as a consultant to a range of government and non-government agencies providing training, consultation and program support. She is a child protection specialist, her recent projects include development of a child protection policy guide for NSW non-government agencies.
