Smart Phones, Tablets and Digital Devices – potential impact on young Children’s Development

This one day workshop will address the challenges of “screen time” for young children and the impact it can cause on development; physical, social, emotional, early literacy and writing skills. Gain skills and tips to assist families to manage and make the most of technology use for young children.
How technology needs to be used importantly as a “Tool” and not purely as an “Entertainment device” for children in the CALD Community.

Barbie Bates is a qualified pediatric occupational therapist, who has many years experience working with families who have suffered from trauma and dislocation.
Barbie is the Executive Director of the national charity Paint the Town REaD Ltd, which aims to encourage everyone in community to support the development of children’s early literacy skills from birth, so that they will be ready for reading and writing at school. She came to this position through the power of read, talk, sing and draw as a way to help parents form and strengthen secure attachments with their babies. This knowledge grew out of her clinical work as a paediatric occupational therapist, over many years partnering with families suffering from trauma and dislocation. The intricacies and miracles of early brain development have been an inspirational and sobering foundation for this work.
